OLOG eNewsletter Term 2 Week 6
Dear Parents and Caregivers
As we near the end of term and the halfway mark of the school year, teachers have been busy using assessment tools to confirm each child's academic growth to provide accurate reports to our parents. These reports will be compiled over the following weeks and sent home in Week 10 on Tuesday 4 July. Parents will be able to meet with teachers in Learning Conversation Week in the 2nd week of Term 3. An opportunity to book these appointments will be released towards the end of this term.
Last week we acknowledged our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters as part of National Reconciliation week. Students participated in a variety of activities. Our Year 4/5 children celebrated Reconciliation with a Mass. It was so lovely to see many parents join in the school mass celebration.
School Hours
The school grounds are open from 8:30am. There are many children being dropped off at school well before 8:30am and this is a concern as there are no teachers out on duty.
I remind all parents that children are to be dropped off at school in the morning from 8:30am. No students are to be in the school grounds before 8:30am besides OSHC students.
School Uniform
The school stocks all uniform requirements. For the cooler months we have long sleeved tops, fleece jackets, wet weather jackest and OLOG beanies. The wet weather jacket is not to replace the fleece jacket. All students are required to have their fleece jacket. We ask that students do not wear long sleeve tops underneath the short sleeve school top. Alternatively long sleeve tops are to be worn.
World Environment Day #BeatPlasticPollution
On Monday we celebrated World Environment Day for 2023, World Environment Day focusses on global solutions to combat plastic pollution. It is a timely reminder that our actions on plastic pollution matters and that we all have a role to play in reducing plastic pollution. Either share your own amazing plastic save solutions or get some inspiration on social media with #BeatPlasticPollution or on the Plastic Free July website.
We ask parents to send nude food, and limit additional waste wrappers and containers. Students have been vigilantly auditing waste, recycle and reuse. Our goal is working towards waste free school. We encourage parents to assist us with support for nude food and reducing waste.
Staff News
Lara Tenikoff will be joining OLOG next week as an ESO in our Early Year classes. Lara has been working at Rosary School Prospect and brings a depth of experience in Early Years.
OLOG Master Plan
Last week I shared with the OLOG Community an update about the exciting progress and development of OLOG’s Master Plan. The Master Plan will provide a plan for future development of OLOG. With the purchase and acquisition of additional land on Joan Avenue this will greatly assist the Master Plan. We are in the final throws of finalising and testing of the Master Plan. The Master Plan is aspirational to support the growth of OLOG. We look forward to sharing the final Master Plan shortly.
I thank you all for making OLOG a vibrant, exciting place for education to occur. We are receiving daily enquiries from families wanting to come and be part of this great school. If you know anyone who might be considering coming to OLOG, please get them to phone the school and speak with our Enrolment Coordinator, Martina Pellegrini to make an appointment to avoid disappointment.
Peace and Blessings

Reconciliation Mass
Last week we celebrated National Reconciliation Week with the theme, Be a Voice for Generations, encouraging us all to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our daily lives. This was an important time for us to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all. Our students engaged in various learning experiences to explore this year’s theme; and Year 4/5’s celebrated a Reconciliation Mass with Father John, some parishioners and families.
We displayed some children’s work “what does Reconciliation mean to me” in the under croft stairwell.
Term 2 Masses
Thursday 15th June- Whole School Mass @ 9.15am in OLOG Church (The Sacred Heart of Jesus)
Thursday 29th June- Year 2/3 Mass @ 9.15am in OLOG Church (St Peter and St Paul)
Parents are welcome to attend.
Holy Trinity
Last Sunday we celebrated the feast of the Holy Trinity.
We believe that there is one God, who has three persons, the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
Each person is God, yet there is still only one God.
God the Father who is the creator, the Son, the Redeemer and the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier and the counsellor.
Prayer
Father God, Holy Three-in-One, we join with the saints on earth and in heaven as we bring our worship to you. Come and meet us now by your Holy Spirit, and gather our dispersed voices into one single church of praise.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
STUDENT REPORTS - NEW ONLINE PLATFORM
Over the past 2 years, Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) schools have been transitioning to a new online platform for teaching and learning purposes called SEQTA. This new platform will also be utilised for reporting purposes across all CESA schools this year.
The information that will be contained in the report is a summary of your child’s achievements to date. Formal reports will be provided twice a year - at the end of the first semester to reflect achievements from Semester 1, and at the end of the year to reflect achievements across the year. These reports are one of a number of ways in which we communicate your child’s achievements and approaches to learning across different curriculum areas. Reporting provides an opportunity for students, families, and teachers to maintain authentic learning conversations and partnership.
Students will be graded on an A – E scale for each of the eight Australian Curriculum learning areas, as well as Religious Education, on their achievement against the achievement standard for their year level. In some cases, students may be assessed against an alternative achievement standard if they have been identified with diverse learning needs. The A – E grading scale are as follows:
Students in Reception will not receive A – E grading, rather their achievements will be assessed and reported on as Working Towards Achievement Standard, Working At Achievement Standard, or Working Beyond Achievement Standard.
After the reporting cycle, parents can ask the school to provide information that clearly shows your child’s achievement in the subject studied in comparison to that of other children in the same peer group at the school. This information will show the number of students achieving in each of the achievement levels A – E for a specified subject.
If you have any questions about our new reporting format please speak to your child’s classroom teacher or a member of the Leadership Team.
Joy and blessings,

SACPSSA LACROSSE CARNIVAL
On Monday the 29th of May all students from Years 3-6 attended the SACPSSA Lacrosse carnival at West Beach. Students were split into teams of 5 and played a round robin 'Come and Try' format hosted by the Glenelg Lacrosse Club. The referee/coaches were amazing with the students teaching the fundamentals as they progressed through the day. The students had a wonderful day and returned in good spirits with an increased understanding and appreciation of the game of Lacrosse.
SAPSASA KNOCKOUT FOOTBALL
On Tuesday the 6th of June we had 19 boys from years 5 and 6 represent the school in the Statewide Schools Knockout Australian Football Competition. We were drawn into a pool which included Pulteney Grammar School and Black Forest Primary School and were hosted in the South Rd Parklands by Pulteney. The first game against Pulteney was a tight match with neither side capitalising on opportunities in front of goal. This one could have easily gone our way with a slice of fortune but in the end we lost 1.5 - 11 to 1.7 - 13.
The second game saw us concede 2 goals in 2 minutes without us gaining a clean possession. The OLOG boys settled their nerves and clawed their way back into the game and ended up running over the top of Black Forest with a 7.6 - 48 to 5.5 - 35 victory. Unfortunately for OLOG, Pulteney won the 3rd and final game of the day sending them through to the next round. Well done boys on a great performance.
R/1 Soccer
The R/1 soccer team played their first game on Saturday 27 May, starting the season with a win. They were very excited and showed great teamwork.
SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
Congratulation to Year 6 stduent, Alice Gallagher, who has made the final South West District SAPSASA Netball Team. A fantastic achievement after taking part in 5 selection rounds. We wish her all the best and know she will do OLOG proud.
On Monday 29th May the R/1 students went to Belair National Park to participate in a Cubby Building Excursion. We worked in small groups to create cubbies that were big enough for our whole group to fit in. It took a lot of problem solving and resilience to finish our cubbies. Next, we braved the rain to build with larger sticks in the outdoor cubby building area. Although it was a wet day, we had a great time and loved wearing gumboots with our school uniform!
Thank you to our parent volunteers who made the day possible.
World Wellbeing Week was created in Jersey and now takes place worldwide with a reach of millions. Mini Vinnies are getting involved. A Message from your Coordinator
First, I’d like to give a warm welcome to our new OSHC educator Georgia who has officially joined the team.
This week we saw the start of the new menu, with the children getting to help make and prepare the afternoon snack. On Monday they got to make mini pizza’s which they enjoyed, while on Friday morning children got to prepare a cinnamon apple cake that they got to enjoy in the afternoon.
I would also like to make mention that in the coming weeks 7 and 8, Camp Australia are having a big art competition where entries have a chance at winning prizes. The coming program for those weeks will reflect this competition.
Kind Regards,
Jonathan Bolt
OSHC Coordinator
Meet the Team
Hi Everyone!
My name is Georgia, and I’m a 19-year-old social work student, studying at Flinders University. During my time outside of OSHC, I love playing footy with my younger Brother, cooking and reading books. I also love arts and crafts, and I can’t wait to create wonderful artwork with the kids during OSHC.
I love being active, and have played many sports over the years (footy, dance, lacrosse, gymnastics and basketball!). So I’m excited to create many sport activities during OSHC.
Kind Regards,
Georgia
