OLOG eNewsletter Term 2 Week 8
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It’s been a chilly couple of weeks, with winter well and truly upon us. Thankfully, we’ve also enjoyed a few sunny days and some much-needed rain.
As we approach the final stretch of Term 2, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the past fortnight and share what’s ahead:
- Sacramental Program with students and parents
- Stage 1B approved by the South Australian Catholic Commission for Schools
- OLOG Debating Team’s recent achievements
- OLOG Hounds Basketball Academy
- Netball Carnival
- Lunchtime Dance Club
- Class Masses
- OLOG Vacation Care commencing during the July holidays
- Mid-Year Receptions transition visits and school readiness activities
A heartfelt thank you to our teaching staff for their continued dedication to assessment and reporting across Reception to Year 6. This is a time of significant workload, and I deeply appreciate the care and attention each staff member is giving to ensure our students and families receive accurate, fair, and constructive feedback. Learning Conversations will be held in Term 3, Week 2. Booking information will be sent out next week.
Over the past month, the Leadership Team and teaching staff have supported me in welcoming prospective students and their families during School Tours and the enrolment process. It’s been a joy to meet so many enthusiastic children and families eager to join our OLOG community. These conversations have been both a privilege and a delight.
One of our key focus areas at OLOG continues to be the implementation of consistent, predictable routines. Staff are encouraged to apply agreed-upon practices in every lesson. Research shows that routines support student learning and enhance their overall school experience. They help create a safe, orderly, and positive environment where students can thrive—and they’re valuable in many aspects of life.
We also proudly celebrated our diverse community during Term 2, coming together for National Reconciliation Week and Harmony Day. These important events remind us of the strength found in unity, respect, and cultural understanding. NAIDOC Week will be celebrated at the end of Term 2.
P&F Quiz Night
The P&F Quiz Night is just a week away, and tickets are still available. Be sure to secure your spot for what promises to be a fun-filled evening!
Staffing Update
Sara Cox will be concluding her time at OLOG at the end of the term due to family reasons. Sara has served as our Enrolments and Admin Coordinator as well as Sports Admin Coordinator.
Over the past four years, she has contributed in many roles—from classroom support to welcoming new families and leading community events, especially with the P&F.
We will miss Sara and thank her sincerely for her hard work and dedication.
The recruitment process for the Enrolments Admin position is nearing completion.
We’re pleased to announce that Katie Sharkey has been appointed as Sports Admin. Katie brings valuable experience from her recent role at Scotch College.
Thank you, once again, for the many ways you support the life of OLOG.
Wishing you all the best for the fortnight ahead.
Peace and Blessings,
Josette Charles
School Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Term 2 Masses and Liturgies
Wednesday 25th June @ 9:15am The Sacred Heart of Jesus: Whole School Mass
Year 6 Mass The Trinity
Last Thursday the Year 6EB Class celebrated the Holy Trinity Mass.
The Feast of Holy Trinity Sunday honours the most fundamental of Christian beliefs, the mystery of the three Persons of God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – who are equally God and cannot be divided. It renews in us our own mission to live in communion with God and with each other. We are not called to live without each other, above or against the other, but with the other, for the other and in the other.

Pyjama Day
On Friday 6th June, OLOG students and staff wore their pyjamas to school as an act of solidarity, for those less fortunate than us including homeless people. Acting out our Pillar of Service, we also raised approximately $500.00 for the Adelaide Day Centre for the Homeless Persons. Whilst we all enjoy the annual Pyjama Day, we also develop values of kindness, empathy and compassion towards others by raising awareness of the plight of homeless people.

Refugee Week
Refugee Week in Australia is held from Sunday to Saturday of the week which includes 20th June (World Refugee Day). For 2025, it is held from Sunday 15th June to Saturday 21st June.
The Year 5’s led Community Prayer, with a focus on praying for refugees.
Classes read stories with their buddy classes, prayed, reflected and participated in activities in recognition of Refugee Week.

Visible Wellbeing
Eighteen months ago, OLOG embarked on the Visible Wellbeing journey using the SEARCH Framework.
SEARCH is an evidence-based framework developed through a long-term research program by Professor Waters in the field of positive psychology and education.
In our learning, Professor Lea Waters guided us through the SEARCH framework’s 6 pathways to wellbeing: Strengths, Emotional Management, Attention and Awareness, Relationships, Coping and Habits and Goals.
As a school we also purchased the Smiling Minds Curriculum, which is a wellbeing program mapped to the Australian Curriculum. Elements of the SEARCH Framework are taught through the Smiling Minds Curriculum. The Smiling Minds Curriculum enhanced our teaching and learning of the SEARCH Framework.
Seven schools participated in a Visible Wellbeing Showcase at Stella Maris School on our Pupil Free Day on June 10; St Thomas School Goodwood, St Bernadette’s School, Stella Maris, St John the Apostle and St Jospeh’s Hindmarsh and St Jospeh’s School Kingswood and Our Lady of Grace School.
Each school had teachers representatives to showcase their work in Visible Wellbeing.
Our Reception teachers and the Year 1 teachers presented elements of Visible Wellbeing at the Visible Wellbeing Showcase.
The visible Wellbeing Showcase was an opportunity for presenters to share their work in Visible Wellbeing and for teachers to be inspired by various ideas of how to implement Visible Wellbeing into classrooms.
Feedback from the Visible Wellbeing Showcase was very positive.
Our Lady of Grace school has also formed a Wellbeing Committee to help support our ongoing work in the area of Visible Wellbeing as the formal training is now coming to an end. The committee members are; Amy Rossi, Jen Edwards and myself.

Sacrament of Confirmation
We currently have seven children in the Sacramental Program; James, Hunter, Josienne, Lawrence, Frank, Hannah and Caleb.
Over the last three weeks they have attended preparation sessions for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
They will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday 24th June at 7:00pm at OLV Church.
Please keep them in our prayers as they prepare themselves for the celebration of Confirmation next Tuesday.
Joy and Blessings

Exciting Development Plans at Our Lady of Grace School
We are thrilled to share that Our Lady of Grace School has lodged plans with Plan SA for Stage 1B of our campus development. This exciting project responds to our strong enrolment growth and reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, flexible learning environments for our students and staff.
The proposed development on Joan Ave includes six new classrooms, breakout spaces, and modern amenities—all designed with a strong focus on architectural quality, street appeal, and respect for the local character and amenity of Joan Avenue. These new facilities will enhance our ability to support student learning while continuing to serve as a valued community hub. OLOG will remain proudly a small school with big values and commitment to enhancing its learning facilities.
We are grateful for the support of the State Government Block Grant Authority (BGA) in helping bring this vision to life and look forward to progressing through the next stages of approval. We also acknowledge the OLOG Board, Parish and Catholic Education SA for their support and guidance.
Thank you for your continued support as we grow together.

Cross country has been postponed to Friday 12th of September (Term 3, Week 8).
Stay tuned for further information in Term 3.
Please contact us at sports@olog.catholic.edu.au if you can help or if you have any questions.

This week, our Year 1 students explored the amazing world of animals through a fun and engaging project. They created visual posters about different animals, focusing on four key areas:
- Appearance – What the animal looks like (colour, size, body parts)
- Habitat – Where the animal lives (forest, desert, ocean, etc.)
- Diet – What the animal eats (plants, meat, or both)
- Needs – What the animal needs to survive (food, water, shelter, space)
The students chose a wide range of animals and used their creativity to draw, label, and write interesting facts. It was a fantastic way to combine science and literacy while encouraging curiosity about the natural world.
We’re so proud of their hard work and can’t wait for you to see their wonderful posters!

This week, our Year 3/4 students engaged in a hands-on Maths task designed around Space. As part of their learning on shapes and their properties in the environment, students created a detailed poster of either a city, golf course, or stadium. This creative project allowed students to apply their mathematical understanding in meaningful ways, making real-world connections through design. Their final work reflects both their imagination and growing confidence in using Maths to explore the world around them.

In Religion, the Year 5s have been looking at Sacramentality. One of the activities that we did, was to look for the sacred in the everyday - these were some responses.

Debating Team Shines in Round 2 of the SA Schools Competition
On Thursday, 5th June, our talented Debating Team proudly represented OLOG in Round 2 of the Debating SA Schools Competition, going head-to-head with Grange Primary School.
Arguing against the topic "That iPads, computers, and tablets in primary school should be banned", our girls delivered a well-structured and persuasive case from the negative side. Their confident delivery and sharp critical thinking impressed the adjudicator, who remarked that "OLOG’s rebuttal skills were outstanding on the night."
Thanks to their strong teamwork and preparation, the team secured another win — and are currently ranked 2nd out of 60 teams across the state. An incredible achievement – congratulations, girls!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Premier's Reading Challenge
We’re so proud of the students who have already completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge and handed in their forms - what an outstanding effort!
We have a running tally in the library to celebrate those who finish, and it’s growing every week. If your child has completed their challenge, please make sure they return their form to the library so we can officially record their achievement. Just a reminder that students should be reading books at their appropriate reading level to make the most of the challenge. Spare forms are available in the library or can be downloaded from the Premiers Reading Challenge website if needed.
Let’s keep the momentum going and celebrate all our wonderful readers!
